Needy Kids Get Early Visit From  Santa

Christmas in Proviso” Event Held

HILLSIDE, Illinois—Families from across Proviso Township celebrated Christmas a few days early this year as governmental and community leaders gathered to celebrate the holiday and provide bags full of gifts from Santa to needy kids during the annual “Christmas In Proviso” event held at Proviso West High School.

“We are proud to be a sponsor of this great holiday party that provides cheer to families who might otherwise not celebrate Christmas at all,” said Michael Corrigan Proviso Township Supervisor and President of the Proviso Township Mental Health Commission.  “Too many of our families face economic hardships or uncertainties and Christmas in Proviso is one small way we can help some of them.”

Proviso Township and the Proviso Township Mental Health Commission sponsored the breakfast portion of the event, providing several hundred nourishing meals to attendees prior to the gift distribution.

In cooperation with local schools, sponsoring towns and organizations select several families each who deserve assistance. They then invite them to “Christmas in Proviso”, a day of food, fun, and activities that all culminate in a distribution of thousands of toys and other gifts.

Chief Sponsor of “Christmas in Proviso” is Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch whose legislative district lies within Proviso Township. Welch thanked the local governments and organizations saying, “ It takes teamwork to make a dream work.”
