New Proviso Mental Health Board Member Seated in May

HILLSIDE, Illinois – Lifelong Proviso Township resident Candace Jordan was sworn onto the Proviso Township Mental Health Commission in May of this year. Jordan grew up in Maywood and Bellwood and is a proud graduate of Proviso West High School.“Not only does Candace have a deep understanding of Proviso Township, her roots are multi-generational,” said Proviso Township Mental Health Commission President Mike Corrigan. “Her dedication to education and community are invaluable and will serve the residents of our Township well.” A longtime volunteer in the community, Candace has three children, two of whom graduated from local high schools, the Proviso Math and Science Academy and Proviso West High School. She also has a 12-year-old son and a granddaughter. Her interpersonal and community relations skills have been honed over the years as a parent volunteer and during her 15 years as General Manager at a local Dunkin Donuts. Most recently, she has worked as the Outreach Coordinator for Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch.“I am thankful to have this opportunity to pour my energy and skills back in to the community that I love and grew up in,” said Jordan. The 58-year-old Proviso Township Mental Health Commission is one of the oldest 708 boards in Illinois and serves behavioral health needs of the 155,000 residents of Proviso Township. The township covers 14 municipalities including Bellwood, Berkeley, Broadview, Brookfield, Forest Park, Hillside, La Grange Park, Melrose Park, Maywood, North Riverside, North Lake, Stone Park, Westchester, and Western Springs. The mission of the Proviso Township Mental Health Commission is to provide financial assistance in the form of annual or special grants for operating purposes from funds obtained by assessment of annual tax on real property to agencies involved in providing prevention or treatment services to township residents in the areas of mental health, developmental disabilities, substance use disorder and medical services as they relate to behavioral health.
